Unlike coats, pants are don’t often have trends all of their own. Instead they tend to slot into the overall trends of the season. Here 5 of the big trends for Fall 2013 and the pants that fit into them.
This trend is all about colour (or lack of it) rather than a specific style. The runway shows featured a lot of white and while the shades and styles may have changed from show to show, the message was the same – white after Labor day is OK!
Alexander Wang, Derek Lam
Proenza Schouler, Salvatore Ferragamo
Plaid was everywhere this Fall. Whether the designer was channelling all things 90s grunge, or something more sophisticated, plaid pants in traditional and non-traditional variations popped up in lots of collections.
Fausto Puglisi, Jeremy Scott
Junya Watanabe, Moschino
Leather abounds this Fall and garments for every part of the body could be found on the catwalks from Paris to New York. Leather pants can be so right or so very wrong, so make keep the styling classic and they can be a real investment piece.
Versace, Rag & Bone
From beading to brocade, there were some very pretty pants on the runways this season. The trick for wearing them in an everyday situation is to keep the rest of the outfit simple and let the pants speak for themselves.
Chanel, Giambattista Valli
Moschino Cheap and Chic, J.Crew
This was the only real pants-based trend this season and a great one for anyone who isn’t a 6 foot something model! Slouchy, wide legged pants have made a comeback and while the skinny pant isn’t completely out of the picture, it definitely had to share the limelight this season. Pick up a pair of slouchy pants in one of the big colours of the season (green, blue or white) to really be on trend this Fall.
